Accidents, flying road debris and vandalism aren't the only circumstances that can damage your vehicle's glass. Weather can cause cracks and breaks, too. Here are a few of the ways changing weather conditions can affect your auto glass.
HAIL
While they can happen at any time of year, spring is the prime season for hailstorms. Even small hailstones can cause big damage to your windshield. Whenever possible, avoid driving during storms that could produce hail, and keep your vehicle parked in a garage or under a carport.
TEMPERATURE SHIFTS
Rapid changes in temperature can cause your auto glass to expand and contract, resulting in cracks. Although you can't control the weather outside, you can take precautions to keep your car's internal temperature from changing too abruptly. When turning on the heat or air conditioning, adjust the temperature gradually to avoid suddenly blasting cold air at a hot window or hot air at a cold one.
"FALL"-ING HAZARDS
As the days get shorter, temperatures and leaves aren't the only things dropping. Trees also start shedding nuts and seeds, and autumn breezes can bring dead branches down, too. Try to avoid parking under trees to keep your vehicle's glass safe from these potential threats.
Even a small crack or chip in your windshield can impair your driving visibility. For prompt, professional auto glass repair, bring your vehicle to Metropolitan Glass Co. Inc.
